Still Life. Peaches

Furred globes of ripened fruit spill across a dark ground, one rolling free of the group. Pyotr Konchalovsky titled the picture Still Life. Peaches, and the brushwork answers in kind, direct and heavy. Each fruit is built from loaded strokes, orange dragged over yellow over cool green shadow, so the skin seems to hold warmth. Highlights sit thick enough to catch real light, small ridges of paint, while the background stays deep and quiet.
