Still Life. Lotus

Lotus flowers surge from a deep bowl in Still Life. Lotus, where Pyotr Konchalovsky lets blossom and leaf fill the frame edge to edge, blooms stacked fat with paint. Petals open in creamy rose and shell white, each stroke laid on so thick it casts its own small shadow. Broad leaves cut across in viridian and bottle green. Behind them a cool slate blue deepens the whole arrangement, while the bowl glints copper at its rim. A dining room or sunlit hallway suits it well, where flowering color stands up to plain plaster and simple furniture.
