Pink roses crowd a footed bowl, petals blown so wide they barely hold together. Still Life. Flowers in pink shows Pyotr Konchalovsky working at his fullest, brush loaded and unapologetic. Oil paint sits thick on the surface, ridges of blush, salmon and deep rose stacked wet into wet. Cool greens of leaf and stem cut through the warmth, and a pale ground lets every petal carry its own weight. Look close and the brushstrokes read as plainly as the flowers themselves.
