Still Life. Currants on a Sieve

Berries by the hundred scatter across a wire strainer in his Still Life, Currants on a Sieve, painter Pyotr Konchalovsky turning a humble domestic task into pure color. Impasto lies thick on each cluster, vermilion dabbed over deeper crimson until the fruit looks wet. Broad green leaves fan behind the heap while the metal mesh cuts a cool silver grid beneath it, loose berries rolling toward the table edge. Hung in a kitchen or breakfast nook, the deep reds read warmly against plaster. They sit naturally beside copper pots, linen and worn wood.
