Still Life. Candlestick and pear

One brass candlestick, one pear. Pyotr Konchalovsky reduces the still life to two stubborn objects and lets thick oil paint argue the case between them. The pear sits heavy near the table edge, its skin built from olive and citron strokes loaded enough to hold light like wax. Behind it the candlestick rises in dented brass, stem catching a single cold highlight against a deep umber ground. Placed above a sideboard or tucked into a reading nook, it suits a room where dinner cooks slowly and the table is never quite bare.
