Still Life. Bird Cherry

Cut branches heavy with white blossom fill the picture, small five petalled flowers stacked along near black twigs. Pyotr Konchalovsky titled it plainly, Still Life. Bird cherry, and gave every petal visible weight. Cream petals open around pale yellow hearts, long serrated leaves reading deep bottle green against a ground that swallows light. A glazed stoneware jug holds the bouquet, its shoulder catching one cool highlight, and impasto ridges ride along every stem. Made for a dining room or a country kitchen, it suits an entryway too, anywhere the short Russian spring could stand a longer stay.
