Still Life. Apples at the roundtable

Apples fill the round table to overflowing, reds and greens stacked in loose pyramids. In Still Life. Apples at the roundtable, Pyotr Konchalovsky lets ordinary fruit take over the room. Brushstrokes lie on the surface in visible ridges, modeling each apple into a sphere of crimson, ocher, and mossy green. A pale cloth crosses the dark ground beneath, its creases drawn in quick cobalt-shadowed strokes. The table edge curves forward, pushing the fruit toward the viewer. A kitchen or dining room with plain walls gives the abundance space to breathe; the deep background settles just as naturally into a study or paneled hallway.
