Still Life

Glass catches the light first. A still life by Adolph de Meyer arranged on a polished surface, its objects leaning into shadow at the frame of the composition. De Meyer built the image around reflections and soft platinum tones: the curve of a vessel, the sheen of cut crystal, pale highlights dissolving into deep gray at the edges. Every surface reads as photographed texture, the grain of silver print toning visible in the gradations. Suited to a dim hallway or a reading corner with low lamplight, where quiet tonal photography rewards close attention.
