One slender nude rises from the fork of a tree, her body drawn in the same dark contour as the bark. Stehender Akt in Baum is Otto Mueller at his quietest. Matte tempera gives the surface a chalky, absorbed look, every form flattened into a single plane. Black contour lines lock torso to trunk, while branches cross the raised arm like ribs. Olive, ochre and pale rose tones stay muted, the pigment thin and dry as fresco. It suits a calm bedroom or a reading nook, where the hushed palette and still pose slow the eye rather than seize it.
