Starry Sky

Stars crowd a deep night field in this Nicholas Roerich work, scattered in pale points across the upper half while darkness pools below. The title says it plainly: Starry sky. Look closely and the handling tells the story. Small dabs of white and cool silver sit against layered indigo and near-black blue, each star placed with care rather than flicked in. The lower register stays broad and quiet, ground and shadow merging into one weight of color, so every point of light above carries more force. The brushwork is economical, almost devotional, the way Roerich treated night over the Himalayas and the Russian plains alike. It belongs in a bedroom or a dim reading nook, where lamplight falls away and the painted stars take over the wall.
