St. Panteleimon the Healer

A haloed physician-saint stands amid violet mountains, holding the narrow instrument of his healing craft. Nicholas Roerich renders St. Panteleimon the Healer as a quiet sentinel of mercy, his gaze level and calm beneath a disc of pale gold. Tempera gives the surface its chalky, fresco-like softness. The robe falls in long panels of cobalt and silver, folds edged in darker line, while behind him the peaks stack in bands of mauve and slate. Every tone is muted, mineral, deliberate.
