Springtime

Boughs heavy with pale pink blossom reach across the sky, painted by the Albanian artist Kimon Loghi in a work titled Springtime. The branches fill the frame before any horizon appears. Petals sit in loose, buttery strokes of rose and cream against a cool blue ground. Trunks lean at easy angles, their bark worked in quick strokes of umber and grey, and light seems to come from everywhere at once, the way it does on a mild morning in April. It belongs in a sunlit reading nook or a bedroom where the season never turns.
