Spring Waters

Meltwater runs everywhere in Spring Waters, Vilhelms Purvitis turning a Latvian thaw into a flood of light. Streams cut silver channels through last years snow. Grey drifts hold the banks while open water burns pale gold and blue, each current carrying slabs of ice downstream. Birch troves and the first green haze line the far shore. The scene suits a hallway or stair landing, anywhere a wide view of open country can breathe. Snowmelt season in the Baltics arrives fast, and Purvitis paints it at the exact hour when winter loses its grip.
