Spring Orchard with a Church

Blossom-heavy apple trees fill the foreground of Spring Orchard with a Church, a landscape by Polish artist Wojciech Weiss. White petals scatter across grass rendered in cool, broken strokes. Behind the orchard, a small church lifts its steeple above the treeline, painted in muted greys and soft blues. Weiss applies color thickly, letting violet shadow and pale green light collide in the foliage. The composition tilts gently, an early hint of the expressionist energy he would later carry into the Young Poland circle. Suited to a sunlit breakfast room or a hallway that needs spring all year.
