Spring in Worpswede

Blossoming fruit trees and slender birches open the view in Spring in Worpswede, a landscape Hans am Ende built from the flat moor country around his Lower Saxon village. Broken brushwork carries the season: white blossom laid thick against a grey-blue sky, new grass in yellow-green strokes, long shadows of violet stretching across a thawing field. Tree trunks lean at slight angles, their bark keyed in ochre and cool silver.
