Wildflowers sweep down from low golden hills toward a wash of green valley floor. Spring in Southern California by Granville Redmond opens on that slope, poppies and lupine scattered like spilled pigment across the foreground. Brushwork stays loose and sunny. Redmond lays in violet shadow on the hillside, warm ochre on the dry ridgeline, and a pale blue sky thinned near the horizon. A stand of dark eucalyptus or oaks anchors one side, their canopy cool against the flowering field. Light does most of the work here, everything softened at midday.
