Spring

A willowy female figure drifts through a flowering meadow in Spring, Frances Macdonald at her most lyrical. Tall stems and pale blossoms rise beside her like a second figure, and the whole composition sways. Elongated, sinuous lines carry the Glasgow Style into the garden. Muted greens and soft rose temper the linear whiplash curves, while the small flowers dot the surface in close, rhythmic clusters.
