A new moon hangs thin above a dark ridgeline, and beneath it two hooded figures raise their arms in invocation. Spell. New moon belongs to the mystical mountain world of Nicholas Roerich. Roerich paints the night sky in deep bands of indigo and violet, layered so the color deepens toward the zenith. The crescent itself glows pale silver against the darkness. The figures stand small on the slope, their gestures rendered in the blunt, temple-like forms he favored, silhouetted against a faint cold light gathering at the horizon. A study or quiet reading nook suits it best, somewhere low lamplight lets the lunar glow carry the room.
