Speeding Automobile

A car tears through the frame, wheels dissolved into spinning arcs of red and violet. Giacomo Balla titled the work Speeding Automobile, and the paint obeys the title. Streaks of cobalt and ochre fan outward from the headlamps, each curve recording a sound the eye cannot hear. The body of the machine barely holds together; motion has eaten its edges. What remains is pure velocity, layered in overlapping crescents of pink, orange, and deep blue. This is Italian Futurism at full throttle, a canvas of pure kinetic energy. Hang it in a loft, a study, or a hallway that needs an engine.
