Sunlight floods the south face of a mountain in South-front, and Albin Egger-Lienz builds the rock wall from ochre and burnt sienna until it seems to radiate heat. Grey ledges cut across the warm stone, scree fans out at the base, and stubborn snow patches hold the couloirs. The brushwork is broad and matte, forms simplified into massive planes, nothing else in sight, only rock, light, and thin alpine air. Hang it in a stairway or study where its weight suits the room, a wall of southern stone for anyone who lives for the high country.
