Sommerlandschaft

Summer spreads across a Swiss hillside in Sommerlandschaft, a landscape by Cuno Amiet where orchards, meadows and farm roofs settle under a wide midday sky. Thick oil strokes build the scene: grass laid in buttery yellows and sap greens, tree crowns dabbed dark against pale light, field edges tipped with ochre. Amiet lets color do the drawing, so hills breathe rather than sit still. Hang it where daylight moves, a dining room or stair landing, and the season returns each morning.
