Solar illumination — Canvas

Light falls across a quiet harbor in Solar illumination, a work by Vartan Mahokian where the sun does more than shine, it structures the entire composition. Mahokian builds the scene around a single burst of radiance: pale gold breaks over the water and spreads in long, deliberate streaks toward the shoreline. Buildings cluster along the quay in warm terracotta and cream, their rooftops catching the strongest glare while their shadowed faces cool into slate blue and grey. Small boats sit low on the swell, hulls dark against the reflected shimmer, and thin masts cut vertical lines through the haze. Sky and sea nearly merge at the horizon, separated only by a band of luminous yellow. Hang it where afternoon light can answer it: a hallway, a dining room, or above a desk facing a window.
