Solang Valley

Cedar slopes fall away toward a green floodplain, and above them the snowline of the Pir Panjal rises white against a deep sky. This is Solang valley, recorded by Nicholas Roerich during his years in the Kullu hills. Tempera blues stack in graded bands down the mountain faces, each ridge a cooler shade than the last. The valley floor reads as a single wash of green, unbroken except for the thin marks of cultivation. Deodar forest climbs the near slopes in dark vertical strokes, giving the composition its weight. Suited to a study or reading room where a view of high Himalayan country can anchor the wall, this reproduction brings Roerich Kullu-period landscape work home.
