Snowy Peaks

Snow crowns a chain of summits in this Nicholas Roerich mountain composition, where icy white ridgelines dominate the upper register and hold the eye at altitude. Below the snowline, the paint thins into cool slate blues and violet shadow, the tempera surface showing the dry, chalky texture Roerich favored in his Himalayan subjects. Thin contours trace each crest, and a band of paler sky presses close behind the highest point, flattening space the way thin mountain air does. A meditative subject for a study, a hallway, or any quiet corner that could use altitude.
