Snowy Lift

A vast snowfield rises in a single clean diagonal, the slope Roerich calls Snowy Lift. Thin white bands cross the incline like terraces, stepping the eye upward toward a pale horizon. Nothing else interrupts the climb. The palette is restrained to snow white, slate blue, and a cool violet shadow pooled in the hollows. Tempera gives the surface a dry, powdery grain, and the brushwork follows the fall line of the mountain, each stroke a contour. Sky and snow nearly merge at the top edge. In a study or reading nook, the upward pull of the slope gives a quiet room its own horizon. Suits interiors built around pale woods and uncluttered walls.
