Snow-covered Pine Saplings

Slender young pines bow beneath fresh powder, dark needles pressed into pale green fans by the weight of a Finnish winter. Pekka Halonen titled the scene with plain honesty: Snow-covered Pine Saplings. Oil paint carries it all: thick white strokes ride over darker underlayers so the drifts read as genuinely piled, shadows settle into blue and violet hollows, and sapling stems warm to russet bark against a pearl gray sky.
