Cultivated fields fold into a shallow hollow beneath a milky sky in Small Valley in Volpedo, a landscape Pellizza da Volpedo built from the farmland around his home village. Short, separate strokes of olive and ochre build the terrain, divisionist color set side by side so violet shadow cools the furrows while low sun warms the ridge and a scatter of farm roofs. No figure disturbs the hush. A study with dark shelves and linen curtains suits it well; those muted greens sit calmly against plaster and worn oak, quiet company for a reading chair.
