Sleeping Muse

A face turned inward in sleep, eyes closed, features smoothed toward a single ovoid curve: Sleeping Muse, the bronze head Constantin Brâncuși reduced to its quietest geometry. Polished bronze carries everything here. The dark, reflective surface holds lamplight in one unbroken sweep, so the closed lids register as two faint arcs and the mouth as a shallow seam. A slim cylindrical base lifts the head, exactly as it would rest on a gallery pedestal. A dim study or a bedside corner suits it, somewhere low evening light can slide across the curve and the face stays secret.
