Sketch

Swift pencil strokes chart a mountain profile, the first committed thought of a painter who spent a lifetime chasing high passes. Roerich recorded such studies on the move, and the energy of the moment still lives in every line. Loose crosshatching shadows one slope while a lighter hand traces the ridgeline above it. The paper tone shows through, letting unfinished areas breathe. Nothing is polished; everything is alive. Grey and umber dominate, broken by a single warmer wash near the base where rock meets valley floor. A work like this belongs in a study or hallway, close at hand where its directness can be read quickly and often.
