Siofok 1920

Sailboats heel across the water of Siofok, hulls tilting into a summer wind that ripples the whole surface of Lake Balaton. Vaszary Janos signed the scene in 1920, and the canvas keeps the heat of that Hungarian shore season. Sunlight sits on the sails in thick whites, blues deepen toward the foreground shallows, and bathers crowd the shoreline as loose dabs of flesh tone and red. The brushwork is brisk and open, paint laid on in confident strokes that let sky and water almost merge at the horizon. A lakeside holiday caught at full tilt, it belongs in a sunlit living room or a hallway that needs air and motion.
