Bell towers and tiled rooftops rise over the streets of Siena. The urban landscape, Pyotr Konchalovsky renders the Tuscan hill city as a mass of brick and terracotta under a pale sky. He builds each house from thick, loaded brushwork, blocks of burnt sienna, dusty rose and cream plaster. Green shutters puncture the walls. Alleys fold into blue shadow, a lone figure crosses the piazza, and sun sits warm on stone scarred by age. Hang it in a study, a hallway, or above a console in the entryway, where those earthy tones carry the whole wall.
