She Monastery

She Monastery sets a Tibetan gompa on its ridge, whitewashed blocks and stacked flat roofs braced against ranges Nicholas Roerich sank into deep ultramarine. Chalky tempera gives the masonry a dry mineral grain. Ochre warms the foreground slope, a mani wall of carved stones threads along the path, and violet shadow pools beneath the cornices while snowfields behind hold the evening alpenglow. Every plane reads flat and frontal, painted with the severity of an icon. A study or stair landing gains from its hush, the deep blues settling a room the way high altitude settles the mind.
