Serenity

A pale sun hangs low over water that barely moves, and everything in Serenity slows to match it. Ciurlionis painted the Lithuanian coast as a held breath, sky and sea pressed close and quiet. Look closely and the surface breaks into fine horizontal strokes, silvery grey over muted blue, the horizon a thin band of gold where light gathers. The water reads almost like textile, weft after weft of cool pigment, while the sun stays a soft, unflickering disc. Serenity belongs in a bedroom or reading nook, anywhere the day is asked to settle. Its hushed blues cool a warm room and steady a busy one.
