Seda, a yard of shop

A shopyard opens its timber gates in Seda, a yard of shop by Mstislav Dobuzhinsky. Storefronts crowd the edges and the eye slips straight into the working middle of a provincial market town. Tall shelves and stacked crates line the covered arcade, drawn in quick, wiry ink strokes over soft grey wash. Signboards hang at crooked angles, awnings throw slatted shadows, and a lone figure pauses among the goods, dwarfed by the clutter of commerce. The palette stays cool: smoke grey, faded sepia, a whisper of ochre on the wooden posts.
