Science against Obscurantism

Light takes the side of reason here. A radiating sun-like form cleaves the composition, its beams cutting through clouds of murky pigment that stand in for ignorance. Giacomo Balla titled the work Science against Obscurantism, and the fight is legible at a glance: clarity surging into shadow. The palette swings between luminous whites, acid yellows, and deep violets, applied in the short, directional strokes Balla used to make paint behave like force. Lines of illumination fork and multiply, while the darker masses recede in broken, agitated layers. Every brushstroke points somewhere.
