Scheiber Hugó

Klauzál Tér opens under a folded sky, rooftops stacking toward a pale sliver of daylight at the center. Scheiber Hugó builds the square from interlocking planes, each façade tilted forward as if the buildings themselves were leaning in to watch the street below. Look closely and the geometry does the work of detail. Faceted blocks of brick red, ochre and slate grey suggest windows, cornices and chimney stacks without drawing a single one straight. Curved rooftops bend against the grid, and thin dark seams divide the planes like leadlines in stained glass, holding the composition taut. Hungarian modernism at its most urban, made for a hallway, a stair landing or the wall above a writing desk where city energy belongs.
