Scenă Mitologică

Figures from an old myth gather at the edge of a dark grove, their drapery catching the last of the light. Scenă mitologică is Kimon Loghi at his most theatrical, all robed forms and painted gesture. Look closely and the brushwork does the storytelling. Deep umber shadow presses against pale flesh tones, a lifted arm breaks the horizon line, and a thin scumble of violet cools the distance between the trees. The composition pivots on that raised gesture, drawing the eye diagonally across the whole scene. A study or library wall suits it well, where lamplight can pick out the impasto and the myth can go on unfolding quietly overhead.
