Santa Fe Landscape

Sun-dried brick and flat rooftops climb a dusty slope in Santa Fe Landscape, painted by Robert Henri with the blunt, muscular handling of American realism. Ochre adobe, silver chamisa, dark viga ends poking from pale facades; violet shadow settles at the base of each building while distant mesas line the horizon in one long, level band. The paint sits thick and direct, sky blue scraped over raw umber in single confident strokes.
