Sanctuaries and Citadels

Stone towers crown a ridge while a white sanctuary gleams below, painted in the deep blues Nicholas Roerich favored across his Himalayan years. Sanctuaries and Citadels sets the sacred against the fortified on one slope. Cobalt shadows slice across the foreground rocks, and the citadel walls read almost architectural in their crisp edges. Above, peaks dissolve into pale ultramarine haze, the distant snow rendered in thin, tempera-like layers. Small touches of ochre warm the path winding toward the shrine. Suited to a study or library, where its cool palette and quiet geometry reward long looking.
