Rustle of the Forest

Tall dark pines press upward in tiered ranks, their crowns dissolving into a pale luminous sky. Rustle of the Forest shows Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis treating woodland as music, each band of trees a held chord. The palette runs deep green and umber against silvery grey, the trunks drawn in fine vertical strokes like organ pipes. Above the treetops a soft glow suggests wind made visible, the rustle of the title rendered as light rather than sound. Nothing here is botanical study; the forest becomes architecture, almost cathedral. Suited to a study, reading nook, or hallway where quiet attention is welcome.
