Rumeli Hisarı

Ramparts step down the slope toward open water in Rumeli Hisarı, Sevket Dag setting crenellated towers under a washed sky, above the pale glitter of the strait. Cypress spires thread between the curtain walls, dark against sunlit masonry. Below the great gate, figures in long coats and fez cross a dusty road past low houses with tiled roofs. A small ferry works the current, its wake cutting the mirrored fortifications in two. Daylight suits it best: a study or stair landing with bare plaster, where weathered stone and deep green hold their own beside dark wood and brass.
