Ruins of an old temple

Broken columns of an ancient temple stand against a pale Cimmerian sky, the subject Konstantin Bogaevsky returns to again and again in his Crimean reveries. Shafted light falls across fallen masonry. Eroded drums and half-swallowed arches glow in dusty rose, violet shadow pooling where blocks have slipped. Thin washes of ochre and grey build the stone grain, brushwork dry as sunbaked rock.
