Round Pond

A round pond sits still at the center, its rim drawn in firm dark strokes and the water held in layered greys. Anna Ostroumova-Lebedeva builds the scene through woodcut tone, every tree and bank cut with deliberate, visible grain. The name says it plainly: Round Pond. Look closer and the surface breaks into crosshatched reflections, pale where light catches, deep graphite where shadows lean across the water. Willows and low foliage frame the pool in muted olive and ash, their forms simplified into the flat planes typical of Russian graphic art. The pond itself becomes a quiet mirror of tone rather than color. It suits a study or reading nook, somewhere the eye can rest on still water between chapters.
