Roses

Roses fill the canvas almost to its edges, petals stacked in thick dabs of cream, blush and deep carmine. Constantin Artachino paints them loose and generous, blooms crowding toward the light from every side. Green foliage cuts through the reds in quick, wet strokes, leaves catching cool shadow where the blossoms burn brightest. The brushwork stays visible everywhere, paint laid on with a gardener hand, unhurried and full.
