Rose Mallow

Pink rose mallow blooms fill the frame, petals washed in dusty rose and carmine over a deep green ground. This floral still life by Theodor Pallady keeps the flower loose and living, never stiffened into botanical illustration. The brushwork shows itself plainly: thick strokes of shell pink and wine red build each petal, while serrated leaves push outward in olive and viridian. Pallady lets the mallow crowd its vase, stems crossing, blooms tipping at different angles, the whole arrangement slightly off balance in a way that feels observed rather than arranged.
