Rocky cliff in Sturla

Grey rock fills the frame, a cliff face above the Sturla shore built from layered strokes of slate, umber and pale stone. Pellizza da Volpedo turns a Ligurian outcrop into a study of weight and weather. Strata run diagonally across the surface, each band hatched with short, deliberate brush marks. Scrub and dry grasses cling to the ledges in olive and ochre, while the sky behind sits flat and luminous, pushing the mass forward. It suits a study or reading room, anywhere that favors quiet, textured landscape over ornament.
