Rocks and Waves (Cape Shiono)

Dark rock shoulders the sea at Cape Shiono. Fujishima Takeji builds the scene in slabs of slate and indigo, foam breaking white where the swell meets stone. The brushwork carries the force of it. Thick grey ridges describe barnacled surfaces, while the water churns in greens and cold blues, one crest curling mid-break. Sky stays thin and pale above the headland, so all the weight sits low in the frame. A seascape of this gravity suits a study, a hallway, or a room with a view of its own weather.
