River Chandra

The Chandra river cuts through a high valley, its pale water coiling between dark slopes toward distant snow. Nicholas Roerich painted this Himalayan scene with the reverence he brought to every range he crossed. Cobalt shadows fall off the ridgelines while ochre banks catch low light along the water. Thin ribbons of white trace the current, and the peaks behind hold that luminous blue violet so characteristic of Roerich mountain work. Brushwork stays broad and declarative, flattening distance into planes of color. A study, hallway, or quiet reading corner gains a contemplative focal point from a scene of this scale and silence.
