Ringwood Glade

Sunlight breaks through a high canopy and falls in long pale stripes across the floor of Ringwood Glade. Talmage catches that exact hour when the wood turns gold and green at once. Trunks rise in columns of warm umber, their bark broken into quick dabs and loaded strokes. Between them, ferns and low bramble catch flecks of lemon and viridian where the light reaches. The deeper shade behind holds a blue grey coolness, painted wet into wet so the edges of the trees seem to breathe. A glade like this belongs in a reading nook or a quiet study, somewhere the eye can wander into the trees.
