Resnik

Village rooftops huddle beneath a broad sky in Resnik, a landscape by Serbian painter Nadezda Petrovic. Houses press together along a hillside, rendered in bold, earthy strokes. Petrovic loads her brush with ochre, rust red and deep umber, dragging pigment across the surface so the rooftiles and slopes feel built rather than painted. The sky churns in grey and pale blue above, its broad passages crowding the clustered dwellings below. Every contour is asserted, unhurried, physical. A landscape like this anchors a hallway or study, bringing Serbian village character and early twentieth century color into the room.
